Tonya Antoinette Terrell was born on May 9th, 1967 in Fresno, California to Betty Jean Terrell. Shortly after her birth, she was adopted by Abraham Arthur Terrell, Jr. While Tanya was very young, Betty Jean and Abraham moved to Compton, California, this is where she graduated from Centennial High School. She went on to study Cosmetology and graduated from Cerritos College in 1996.
Her passion for and career in Cosmetology expanded over 22 years. Tanya took pride and enjoyed cutting and styling everyone from family members to friends to anyone in the community that she struck up a conversation with. Following graduation from Cosmetology school, Tonya moved to Norwalk, California where she resided until 2004. She then relocated with her family to Long Beach, California and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
Although congestive heart failure slowed Tonya down and reduced her ability to do hair, her heart could never reduce the amount of love and care Tonya shared with others. Ultimately in 2012, Tanya moved to Madera, California to be the caregiver to her loving Mother, Betty Jean.
In addition to being a devoted mother with an undeniable love for her children, Tonya was also fun loving, down to earth, an awesome cook, kind hearted, and had a great sense of humor. She was compassionate with the biggest heart. She was always thinking of and looking out for others. In life there was never a dull moment with Tanya.
Left to cherish Tonya’s memory are her two sets of twin children; Cory and Nathaniel Robinson, Jazmine and Joel Miller, three brothers Fabian Davis, Abe Terrell (Melva) and Joseph Terrell (Tammi), one granddaughter Makenna Robinson. Tonya is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Her memory and the stamp she placed on the hearts of those that were blessed to know her will live eternally. Tonya leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and unconditional love.
Tonya was that little plant that grows in a crack in the asphalt that thrives in spite of little water, poor soil, traffic and trouble.
